San Geronimo Lodge has a palpable spiritual energy about it which inspires certain guests to come again and again. The owners, Pam and Charles, felt that quality when they first visited the Lodge in July 2007 and were inspired to purchase the property. Enhancing the peaceful spiritual atmosphere remains a priority for them.

… We had a wonderful weekend. You both have made this place such a spiritual place. We love it here and feel like we are at home. God Bless you both. Much love.” ~Mike and Sherri, Colorado

The Prayer Path

The Prayer Path is a unique and wonderful feature of our lodge, traversing all parts of the lodge acreage. It is a 1/3 mile long meandering loop with fourteen stations along the way, beginning and ending near the Labyrinth. The path is bordered with river rock and each station has a roman numeral, a bench, and some unique feature such as a writing table, fruit tree, statue, bell, or waterfall.

At each station there is a keyword on which to meditate – The keywords currently in use are: Courage, Humility, Faith, Discipline, Service, Kindness, Generosity, Compassion, Forgiveness, Patience, Gratitude, Hope, Wisdom, and Peace.

The San Geronimo Lodge Prayer Path ends with a gate and a request to shake the rattle before you go.
A highlight of the path is the “Demon Shack” where you can “dump your demons” (anger, procrastination, addiction, etc.) by writing them down on a small piece of paper which you then swirl in a basin of water where, astonishingly, it disappears! Not just the ink, but the paper itself! This experience provides a powerful demonstration of the impermanence of your demons and your determination to dump them.

As you exit the Demon Shack you encounter a view finder through which you can locate Taos Mountain and the more distant Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico.

As a spiritual aid, the path is best walked alone, but it can also be used simply for a pleasant and relaxing walk around the lodge grounds, alone or with a companion.

A Testimonial
"Our family was on a very blessed, once in a lifetime journey this past summer. We had begun traveling across the country from our home in Tennessee in July, when we landed at the San Geronimo Lodge in late August. We had begun the swing back toward home and the days were flying by us. I had been recently invited back into a very angst ridden and political work situation and found myself giving into stress and allowing it to steal me away. The experience of the labyrinth and prayer path gave me the incredible gift of re-centering on the peace of the present moment - the peace of being in partnership with the Holy Spirit. The 'Dump Your Demons Shack' had a deep and lasting impact as I left behind what was holding me back from peace. Our 24 hours in Taos and at the San Geronimo Lodge were profound, spiritual and blessed! Thank you for this blessing."

The Labyrinth

he labyrinth at San Geronimo Lodge, Taos, NM

The Labyrinth at San Geronimo Lodge was completed in July of 2009. It is 50 feet in diameter with wide, 30-inch gravel paths arranged in seven circuits around the spacious center. The paths are delineated by 12 tons of river rock. At the center are seven interesting sitting rocks. When you walk to the center and out again, you will have physically traveled about a quarter mile. Depending on your intention and focus, your spiritual journey may be much longer. Approached reverently, a labyrinth can be a powerful tool for spiritual insight for people of all faiths.

Have a plan - and a cup of coffee! We chose seven circuits. (five and eleven are common too.) The paths are 30 inches wide, around a 10 foot diameter center. Select a site. We chose a flat area set back from the road, which has sunlight, shade, and a view of Taos Mountain. Nearby is a little waterfall and bridge. Establish the center. Use a string as a compass to mark the circles. We put a piece of tape on the string every 30 inches. The center rocks were removed.

Lay down weed cloth. The 24 outer triangles were an afterthought, added to use up the small rocks. They increased the overall diameter to 50'. Bring in the rock. This labyrinth took 10 tons of gravel and 12 tons of river rock. The gravel was spread first, and then the rock was trucked in and put in place. You can share the work and have fun too, by having a work party. Pam’s family, here for a reunion, cheerfully pitched in to complete this project.

Lovely and Comfortable and Quiet
"I have been traveling to New Mexico for over 30 years and this was my first time in San Geronimo. No, it is not in Taos, but outside in the beautiful and quiet countryside. Gorgeous room with king size bed, fire place, walk in shower. Lots of pillows, incredibly soft sheets. Property beautiful in late winter snow. Quiet and relaxing, I hated to leave." ~MostWinningWoman, March 2010
